Die Ouvertüre 1812 von Pjotr Iljitsj Tchaikowski wurde zum Andenken an den russischen Sieg über die Napoleonische Armee im Jahre 1812 komponiert. Zuerst hört man eine kirchliche Hymne im tiefen Holzregister und im Laufe der Komposition kommt es zur musikalischen „Konfrontation' zwischen der Marseillaise und der damaligen russischen Nationalhymne. Teilweise ist diese Ouvertüre auch bekannt aufgrund des Einsatzes von Glocken und Kanonen, die die zaristische Hymne im Finale begleiten.
